Difficult friendships?

Image
Being home more often, because of the new restrictions and curfews, has me thinking about a lot of things. Sometimes I see people treating others in awful ways and they call each other “friends”. When confronted about it, they just say that “it’s complicated” or that it is a “difficult friendship” ... I don’t get it! Friendships or relationships in general are not supposed to be complicated. They are supposed to make you feel safe, loved and respected at all times. You don’t need to see each other every day, you don’t need to talk all the time, but whenever you do, it should feel like no time has passed since the last time. Good friends are there for the good and the bad, they tell you like it is, while also giving you confidence. They are there for you and you feel like telling them everything, without fear of judgement. Trust me when I tell you, everyone else, all of those “friends” that give you less than this, don’t deserve to be called friends, and you should let them go. No...

Addicted to Food?

Image
I want to start by saying that I’m not a professional of any kind when it comes to this subject. I’m merely putting out my thoughts and feelings. If you are dealing with any mental/physical problems regarding food/eating, or of any kind, please seek out professional help. The other day I was watching a lady talk about the dangers of vaping and then she went on talking about addiction. When she was defining “addiction” it really caught my attention. I tried searching for that specific definition and this is the closest I could find. According to Medical News Today , addiction is a psychological and physical inability to stop consuming a chemical, drug, activity or substance even though it is causing psychological and physical harm . Am I addicted to eating? Well, now I’m controlling and restricting myself a bit, but when I wasn’t, I would just eat constantly, fully aware of what it was doing to my body (on the inside and on the outside). And I wouldn’t be satisfied with just anyth...

Starting Over

Image
In the summer of 2018, I decided I wanted to change my life and I started a diet, accompanied by a professional. By the beginning of 2019 I had lost ~20Kg (~44 lbs) and I was close to my goal but I started letting go. Slowly but surely, I started gaining every single bit that I lost and I am completely aware that even though most of it is my fault, 2019 was a year of much anxiety for me, because of my thesis and constantly having to meet deadlines. But I think that’s an excuse. I’m back to square one, but I am optimistic ! I feel mentally right, I feel the moment is right and I am ready to start again! Yesterday was my first day back on track and I ate so, so well! I got back into my experimental healthy cooking and I am having the best time thinking about what to do next. I’m starting to think I have a REAL passion for cooking and not just eating... The hardest part about the first week (maybe first 2 weeks) is cutting off the sugar , because sugar is a drug . I like to cut things...

Story Time: A Smoothie Disaster

Image
About two weeks ago I mentioned a book, Fern Green’s Smoothie Detox Bible and I said I was thinking of trying the 3-day detox plan, just to see what would happen. And I did. Kinda... I feel like I need to start by saying that crazy diets are a bunch of bullshit and never worthy. I went into this not seeing it as a diet (I was only trying it for a few days) but as an experience to write about afterwards. So, if you ever feel like you need to make a change in your life, when it comes to your eating habits, please always make sure to do it safely and with guidance from a professional . Now, back to the topic at hand. I read through the entire book and chose the recipes I wanted to try out for the 3 days, bought everything and then it started. I had my breakfast smoothie and tea and decided I was going to take some lessons from my course. Let me tell you, I had NO energy. Nothing. Partially is was my fault, because only after did I realize that there were better smoothie options fo...

Quarantine Thoughts - Day 30

Image
What changed in a month? Staying home without a job is stressing but we’re managing for now, at the same time it has allowed me to broaden my horizons as a creator. It gave me the time and space to focus on trying new things, establish new goals and discover new things about myself and my abilities. It started with returning to writing, then taking pictures to go with the posts, then I wanted the pictures to look nicer so I started editing them, but then I figured some pictures needed movement so I took better pictures and made GIFs. Then I decided I was going to share another big part of my life: games. So, I wrote about them, then I recorded them and then I started to learn how to edit the footage to make funny videos. I did that. At the same time, I’m taking a course. What’s next? A lot of things. Why? Because I love lots of different things. I have enough interests to fit at least 5 different people. I like gaming, reading, writing, music (not sure how I’ll ge...

Starting Over

Image
I’m in a not so good phase of my life. I’m lacking motivation, I’m anxious, uninspired and to top it all off, I gained almost all the weight that I had lost. I also feel like I have no one to talk to, since I don’t know anyone going through anything similar. I just feel like whenever I try to explain it, no one really gets it. I don’t see any progress in my life. However, something deep down pushed me to try and find some motivation or inspiration today. I read somewhere that people like me often don’t do certain things just because we don’t “feel like it”. But not feeling like doing something doesn’t actually stop us from doing it. As much as I don’t “feel like” getting up in the morning, there’s no invisible force keeping me tied up to the bed. Whatever we feel about the things we have to do doesn’t have any impact on the ability of doing them. Or, at least, that’s how it should be. I want to try and be more conscious and not let feelings control what happens in my day to d...

Never Give Up

Image
You know that feeling, when you’re doing something to change your life, of “if I just do it one time it won’t hurt”? For example, when you are dieting and you feel like eating something you shouldn’t and you think “one bite won’t hurt”. Yeah, you end up eating the whole thing. Never give into that feeling. Trust me when I say that the “one time” will multiply and sooner or later you’ll be back where you started, or worse. I’ve always been a big girl and I’ve tried, many times, to go on diets or working out but I failed every single time. Why? First, I wasn’t in the correct mindset needed to change, second, I had no willpower , and third, slowly but surely, I always went back to my old ways . This time I feel different about my “mission” to lose weight. I care more about my health, when I started I was physically at my worse and I feel this motivation that I’ve never had before. For the first time I don’t feel like this change is a burden, I’m enjoying trying out new food...

Giving Myself a Break

Image
As you may have read before, I became single this February, and that was the first time I was single in a total of about 7 years. After getting over the sadness that comes with every breakup, I felt ready and excited to see what else was out there. I wasn’t look for anything serious, to be honest, but at the same time, I wasn’t not looking, you know what I mean? So, I talked with more guys that I can count, I went on numerous dates and the outcome was exactly the same, every single time: disappointment. From shitty personalities, to full out liars, I went through them all, and after this last one ( check out the story here ) I was done. No more meaningless dating, no more pretty faces with no brains, no more one-night stands. From now on, I’m not looking anymore. Actually, the thought of even going on online dating apps, at the moment makes me want to curl up in a ball and die. I’m focusing on me, my life, my goals, my happiness and my health. I’m working on going on an i...

My Weight Loss Journey: First Week

Image
The first week of my new dietary regime has passed and I am very happy with the results. I’ve lost 2kg (~ 4 pounds), 2cm (~ 0.8 inches) in my chest, waist and hips and 3cm (~ 1.2 inches) in my belly. So, physically, everything is going just how it’s supposed to. Mentally, this first week was a rollercoaster . I was very bored and irritated in the first days and I couldn’t understand why, but after I managed to regain control of my moods and emotions (around the 4 th day) I realized that I was finally allowing myself to feel the emotions that I would “mask” with food before. The afternoons were the hardest part of the day because it was during that period of time that I used to eat the most, especially sugary things. So apart from dieting now I also kind of went through some serious sugar withdrawal . It’s not a good feeling at all. I could feel my body craving it and everywhere I looked, in this house, there were cookies, sodas and other sweet things. I felt very tempted but...
