Immortalem Lullaby

Image
Hey guys! It’s Sunday and that means that today I bring you some content that I love. This time I wanted to recommend you guys an online book called Immortalem Lullaby , by my good friend Luciana Marujo. This vampire story has the perfect mixture of Paranormal and Romance and, so far, has won many awards such as 1 st Place in the Paranormal & Horror Category in the Luauer Edit 2020; and 1 st Place in the Villain Category in the Million Dreams Contest 2019. It is still currently being written by the author, however the first chapters are already available online, for reading. The author chose the Wattpad platform to publish and share her work and has gathered a big community of readers, eager for the next chapter to come out. The book recently reached 9 500 views and 693 followers, an incredible milestone! The synopsis goes as follows: “Eighteen years after her mother’s death, Lucille Howard was left in the care of her only living relative, her aunt Francesca, a woman of elegan

The Lost Soldier

Image
This is a story submitted by a friend: “My grandmother used to live with my grandfather, my godfather (he was still a baby at the time) and my mom, who was 4 or 5 years old at the time. They all lived together in a little tiny house. My grandfather used to leave the house at night to go to the coffee shop, leaving my grandmother at home, all alone with the kids, and on those nights, she started noticing a male silhouette in her backyard. She was a brave woman, so she always went outside to try and see who it was that was trying to scare her but whenever she got there to investigate, no one was in sight and everything was quiet. All of this went on until my grandmother decided it was time to move out. Later on, we all discovered that that house, and the ones around it, were built on top of an old cemetery for fallen soldiers.”

Chocolate & Strawberry Cake

Image
I said I was on a diet and I am, trust me! If any of you had the courage to watch my first rant on Youtube you might know that May 9 th was my sister’s birthday. Since we couldn’t go and see her, we decided to bake a cake we never tried before, and this is how it went! Ingredients: (for the dough) 6 eggs; 200g of sugar; 170g of flour; 1 tea spoon of baking powder; 40g of powdered chocolate; Butter (to grease the mold); Flour (to sprinkle on the mold). (for filling and coverage) 300g of culinary chocolate (tablet); 250 mL of cream; 350g of strawberries; Chocolate sprinkles. Preparation: Mix the eggs with the sugar first and then add the flour, baking powder and powdered chocolate. Mix well. Grease a 23 cm diameter mold and sprinkle it with some flour. Pour the previous mix into it and bake it at 180ºC (356ºF) for 35 minutes. Let the cake cool off and remove it from the mold. Cut the cake in two halves, longi

Starting Over

Image
In the summer of 2018, I decided I wanted to change my life and I started a diet, accompanied by a professional. By the beginning of 2019 I had lost ~20Kg (~44 lbs) and I was close to my goal but I started letting go. Slowly but surely, I started gaining every single bit that I lost and I am completely aware that even though most of it is my fault, 2019 was a year of much anxiety for me, because of my thesis and constantly having to meet deadlines. But I think that’s an excuse. I’m back to square one, but I am optimistic ! I feel mentally right, I feel the moment is right and I am ready to start again! Yesterday was my first day back on track and I ate so, so well! I got back into my experimental healthy cooking and I am having the best time thinking about what to do next. I’m starting to think I have a REAL passion for cooking and not just eating... The hardest part about the first week (maybe first 2 weeks) is cutting off the sugar , because sugar is a drug . I like to cut things

A Change in Format

Image
Hey guys! Recently, I’ve been thinking about where I want to go with this blog and I came up with a cool idea that is both interesting and manageable , so I figured I would give you the layout. I’m going to have 3 major posting days (Spooky Saturdays; Foodie Fridays and Whatever Wednesdays) plus a smaller posting day on Sunday (Shoutout Sundays). Spooky Saturdays One thing I really enjoy is reading and listening to real stories from real people, especially spooky or inexplicable ones. Whether they are paranormal or just strange encounters/ situations it has always been something that keeps me hooked for hours. So, I’ve decided to start collecting stories from my friends and family in order to share them here. Maybe, one day, I can share your stories too.   Foodie Fridays If you’ve been here before, you know I love food and cooking . There was even a “Recipe” tab here before, and that is not going to change! I’m going to create a dedicated space to all the delicious recipes

An Important Message to All Creators

Image
If you are reading this and you want to be a writer, a singer, a youtuber, an influencer, or even you just want to try something new, a new style, a new recipe, a new hobby, this message is for you. This week I went I decided I was going to post a video to Youtube, because I wanted to try it out. Let me tell you, I had so, so much fun! From recording gameplay, to learning some new editing skills, to preparing bullet points to talk about, to recording my voice... It was an amazing experience! I have never done something like this before and I know that the quality of the video is not even comparable to youtubers I follow, but that was not my point. What I wanted to do was to try something new and be proud of it. And I was. And I am. I decided I was going to share the video the same way I share my blog posts and on one of the places I share I got some nasty comments. At first, I was shocked because it took me by surprise but then I realized that, as I was giving an opinion on that v

Summer Mint Smoothie

Image
As promised, I’m going to leave you the recipes for the 3 smoothies I tried during that (disastrous) detox attempt . Even though I seriously don’t recommend trying the detox itself, the smoothies I tried were really delicious and therefore I feel comfortable sharing them with you. Ingredients (for 1 person): 1 apple; 2 oranges; 3 or 4 mint leaves (depending on their size); Preparation: Mix all ingredients in a blender until you obtain a homogenous mixture, and serve.   The books says: “Oranges are filled with polyphenols that protect us from viral infections . This smoothie is a source of vitamins , strengthens the immune system and is detoxifying .   To me, this smoothie was amazing in particular because it transported me to a time in my childhood where my mother used to make me apple and orange juice in a machine we still have to this day, it was a happy throwback moment for me. Be sure to check other delicious recipes here . And if you enjoy my content and want

Story Time: A Smoothie Disaster

Image
About two weeks ago I mentioned a book, Fern Green’s Smoothie Detox Bible and I said I was thinking of trying the 3-day detox plan, just to see what would happen. And I did. Kinda... I feel like I need to start by saying that crazy diets are a bunch of bullshit and never worthy. I went into this not seeing it as a diet (I was only trying it for a few days) but as an experience to write about afterwards. So, if you ever feel like you need to make a change in your life, when it comes to your eating habits, please always make sure to do it safely and with guidance from a professional . Now, back to the topic at hand. I read through the entire book and chose the recipes I wanted to try out for the 3 days, bought everything and then it started. I had my breakfast smoothie and tea and decided I was going to take some lessons from my course. Let me tell you, I had NO energy. Nothing. Partially is was my fault, because only after did I realize that there were better smoothie options fo

Mother's Day

Image
As I mentioned before, today is Mother’s Day here in Portugal. I have the most amazing mother and she deserves everything good in this world. My sister and I (I have an older sister, she doesn’t live with us anymore, as she’s married and has her own family now) agreed to get my mom some sort of plant as a gift. There’s nothing my mom loves more than flowers and gardening. So, we got her this huge pink orchid, it is gorgeous! My mom really loved it and quickly propped up the vase next to the many, many, other vases she already has in our patio. As for me, I don’t have kids, but I am a proud cat mom! I have an 8-year-old yellow cat called Kiko and recently me and my boyfriend adopted a black and white kitten he named Bimmer (because of his love for BMWs). Bimmer stays at his house but he is my baby as well. He turns 8 months today, actually! Since I was feeling down, I decided it would be a cute idea to “celebrate” Mother’s Day as well, as a cat mommy, so I decided I was

Everyday Makeup

Image
I hardly have been wearing makeup lately, as I’m staying home as much as I can, but considering today was Mother’s Day, I wanted to look good for some pictures so, I got my Ultimate Nyx Palette, some eyeliner, mascara and nude lipstick and went to town! Well, actually, my makeup is pretty simple, and that’s how I like it! So, this is how I do it: I take shade 1. and put it all over the lid, then I blend it out as much as I can. Sometimes, when I use too much shadow and I’m having a hard time blending, I like to take the first shade in the palette, that white/translucent color, and use it to help blend out the edges. Then I take shade 2. (a shimmery pinky bronze) with my finger and I apply that to the center of the lid for that beautiful pop! Unfortunately, the shimmers in this palette don’t come out with that wet effect that I would like, but it’s the best that I have for now. Finally, I take a smaller brush and apply shade 3. (a very light gold) in the inner cor

Quarantine Thoughts - Day 46

Image
Yesterday, it was the last day of the Emergency State here in Portugal. Starting today, small businesses are starting to open, of course they have to operate according to security norms but still, this is the first step towards going back to normal. Whatever normal is now. Personally, I’m afraid. I’m afraid that people will want more and more, and that they’ll take this decision as a sign of “Oh, we can do whatever we want again.”, which is not true. And if this mentality remains, numbers will start going up again and the government will impose the Emergency State again. So, since no one wants to go backwards I can only hope that everyone remains focused on the greater good. The more we protect ourselves and each other, the more we follow the norms while they’re needed, the faster we’ll get over this. On another note, lately I’ve been feeling really anxious (the kind of anxious that takes all inspiration and motivation away). I’ve been struggling to sleep, my mind is at maximu
