Quarantine Thoughts - Day 29
You guys, today was a challenge!
I previously mentioned I might get into streaming/recording soon, and I did just that. I decided I wanted to record and edit my
gameplay. But before that could happen there were so, so many obstacles... I’m
going to take you through the journey and then you’ll get to see a teaser of
the final product.
First things, first: I had to choose a game. My
laptop is quite decent, but it’s also not new. It can run some heavy games in
low settings but then to add recording to the mix would even make things
harder. I chose Darkest Dungeon. I love the aesthetic of the game, I
love the mechanics and all the intricate things but the only knowledge I had of
the game came from the few streams I saw, so even the game was fairly new to
me.
Then I had to get the game to record. I had OBS
installed from when I delved into streaming a few years ago, but OBS wouldn’t
properly record de game, no matter what I tried. So, I decided to get another
program. I downloaded and installed Xsplit and quickly figured out how
to get things started.
I struggled with my microphone. I recorded my voice
directly from the laptop and it was awful. I gave the headset I had to my
boyfriend a while ago and I didn’t have any other alternative. But I went with it.
The last part was the hardest, by far: editing.
I never edited anything before, so in order to even choose what program to get,
I did a quick search and found this video on Youtube, from TJ FREE, in which he
presented the 5 best free video editing software in 2020. Of all 5 I found Shotcut
the most intuitive, so I installed it and started messing with it, but I still
had trouble. Luckily, for me, this same youtuber has a playlist of step by step
videos, teaching how to operate this program. And I saw the light at the end of
the tunnel.
I edited my complete video and I also decided to make
a short video displaying the highlights of the gameplay, so that I could show
you my work and all the new things I learned today!
Without further delay, here is the final product:
The complete playthrough is available in my Patreon,
right now for all my Tier 2 (3€/month) patrons! You can’t miss it!
